As we approach the end of 2012, it’s hard to believe that we broke ground on the Heritage Project only one year ago, on Dec. 17, 2011. The structure is quite imposing now, and crews will start work on the seventh floor soon.
Just as this year passed quickly, the next two years will come and go before we know it, and we will be opening our new hospital. We tentatively have set our patient-move date for Dec. 14, 2014. We put a lot of thought and research into this date and we believe moving on this particular date will allow us to take advantage of a typically lower census, thus limiting the number of patients we need to move. This date also will allow us to ramp down our daily procedures and operations at a traditionally slower time of year, then ramp back up by the start of the new year.
There will be several other milestones before our patient-move date. We anticipate topping off the new hospital in March of next year. The new associate parking garage is slated to open in the summer of 2013, and the new Central Utility Plant will open in the fall of 2013. The construction site once again will look very different one year from now. Given the size and complexity of this project, two years is not a lot of time to get everything done.
We have a great partnership in place with our medical staff, and we’re looking forward to doing some great work with you at the new hospital, as well as at our current one. Thank you for everything you have done on behalf of Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in the last year.
I hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
