Knitting Group makes donation to Baby Bootique
Foundation staff members join members of the Allied Jewish Apartments knitting group as they make a donation of hand knitted items to the Baby Bootique.
On Tuesday, July 20, several members of the Allied Jewish Apartments Knitting Group visited the Baby Bootique at
Saint Joseph
Hospital
. The group has worked over the last several months to produce more than 200 hand made items exclusively for the Baby Bootique. The generous donation included baby booties, scarves, hats, and sweaters.
The Knitting Group has convened every Tuesday over the past several years, and a variety of charities from across the globe have been the beneficiaries of their craftsmanship. “Life has been good to us and this gives us the opportunity to give back to people that need our help,” commented Roselle Leviton, a member of the knitting group. “The Baby Bootique was perfect choice since they assist low-income and uninsured families.”
Roselle
also made an appeal for yarn. In order to continue their work in the community, the group is in constant need of donated yarn supplies. If you are interested in donating yarn to the Allied Jewish Apartment Knitting Group please contact Marcia Helfant at 720.382.7805.
The Allied Jewish Apartments is an apartment home and assisted living community that seeks to provide affordable housing and services to enhance the personal dignity of older individuals.
The Baby Bootique at
Saint Joseph
Hospital
encourages expectant parents to seek early prenatal care, participate in pre-natal and parenting education and adopt healthy life-style changes. The program focuses on low-income and uninsured parents from the Hospital’s two clinics offering obstetrical services, the Seton Women’s Center and the Family Medicine Center. Participants receive coupons that they can exchange for clothing, diapers, car seats and other necessities.

Mother and Daughter Mural Painting Team Lend Their Artistic Skills to the Comprehensive Cancer Center
Dr. Jacqueline Shuler, mother, holds a Doctorate in Art Education from Carnegie Mellon University and teaches Digital Photography and Graphic Design at local Rock Canyon High School. Following in her mother's footsteps and graduating from the University of Colorado in Fine Arts, Stephanie Sitkewich currently expresses her artistic ability in Landscape Design at Environmental Designs, Inc. Shuler has been free of cancer for just over 10 years. To celebrate this, she and her daughter volunteered to paint two murals in the Breast Care Center in hopes of reaching, touching and brightening the lives of others facing personal challenges. "Mostly, we just wanted to spend time together painting, in a creative and healing atmosphere...where we don't just heal ourselves during the therapeutic process...but the painted imagery passes on our constructive energy, hope and faith to all onlookers...it's like prayer--without the words" ...says the mother-daughter team in a recent interview. The Cardiac & Vascular Institute Achieves Top Honors – Again!
For the seventh straight reporting period, including the 2009 calendar year, the Cardiac & Vascular Institute’s open heart surgery program has once again received a 3 Star Rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons 9STS) – the highest quality tier assigned. This places Saint Joseph Hospital’s CVI in the top 12 percent (out of 100 percent), one of the highest ratings ever for Saint Joseph Hospital.
Latest Technology Arrives at Saint Joseph Hospital
The Hospital’s Radiation Oncology team is planning to bring the latest technology by Varian Medical Systems to Saint Joseph Hospital and the greater Denver area when the TrueBEAM linear accelerator will be delivered later this month. Saint Joseph Hospital will be the first community hospital in the United States to acquire this technology. The precision of a TrueBEAM system is measured in increments of less than a millimeter. This accuracy is made possible by the system’s sophisticated architecture, which established a new level of synchronization between imaging, patient position, motion management, beam shaping and dose delivery technologies. In addition, TrueBEAM performs accuracy checks every ten milliseconds throughout the entire treatment.
Emergency Department Recognized for Acute MI Care
Since last November, 100 percent who arrive at Saint Joseph Hospital experiencing a heart attack have blood flow restored to their hearts with 90 minutes – a nationally recognized quality-of-care- measure for acute cardiac care. These results were the direct result of providers from the Emergency Department, Cardiology, Cath lab and Nursing who formed a team with the express purpose of decreasing “door-to-balloon” (D2B) times. The team implemented a number of new tools and processes to achieve times of less than 90 minutes for 100 percent of cases in ten out of the last twelve months.
