About the Volunteers
The Volunteer Services Department is dedicated to providing compassionate, well-trained and resourceful individuals whose superior service supports all departments, affiliates, programs, and customers of Saint Joseph Hospital. Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation consistently complements the Mission and Vision of Saint Joseph Hospital.
The Mission Statement sets the standard for the entire Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation team - employees and volunteers alike. To preserve the excellent reputation of Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, each of us must constantly be aware of the need to deliver services with integrity and competence. We extend our services beyond the patients to include family members, health professionals, employees, volunteers, and the general public. "Excellence" is the minimum standard.
Since 1955, volunteers have been an important part of Saint Joseph Hospital. Each year volunteers donate more than 40,000 hours of service in more than 100 areas of the hospital. Most volunteers work an average four-hour shift once a week. Some choose to work on special or periodic projects. Leadership and fundraising opportunities are also available.
The Volunteers of Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation have contributed in excess of $4,000,000 and countless hours in service and compassion for others. In 2000, the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Volunteers established the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Volunteer Millennium Endowment. This Endowment will supplement charity care for indigent patients and their families, education for residents and/or employees and Volunteer activities in support of the Volunteer mission.
The Volunteers’ monetary donations cover a wide range of activities for Saint Joseph Hospital. In the past, funds have been used for equipment and building for the Surgery Department expansion, the Surgery Waiting Room, the Radiology Department, needs of the Mother/Baby Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care and Labor and Delivery Units and countless other projects and programs.
