Cardiac & Pulmonary Health & Rehabilitation Center Expansion
“A dream come true.” That’s how Christy Ruskusky, the manager for the newly renovated Cardiac & Pulmonary Health & Rehabilitation Center, describes the facility.
The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation provided a gift of $150,000 towards the relocation of the Cardiac & Pulmonary Health & Rehabilitation Center and the renovation of the new space. Generous donations were received from the Martin J. and Mary Anne O’Fallon Fund within the Denver Foundation and from Wells Fargo. The remainder of the gift came from community donations.
The highlights of the new facility include: expanded patient care spaces including the therapy gym and interviewing rooms; front door valet parking for patients (before, patients had to walk almost a quarter of a mile); a comfortable waiting area; restrooms with lockers and showers; an education room; a cool-down room; larger staff offices; and a break room. After almost two years of dreaming and working, staff moved into their new rehab center on October 8 and 9, 2008, and opened for business on October 13.

Saint Christopher Inn
Saint Christopher Inn is located at 1789 Lafayette Street and opened in February 1994. Saint Christopher Inn offers low-cost temporary housing for patients and their families. In addition, hospital employees who live a great distance from the Hospital often stay at the Saint Christopher House, as do applicants for residency positions with the hospital's four medical residency programs, when they visit Denver for interviews.
The Saint Christopher Inn served 20,000 guests in 2008, and the building has been heavily utilized during its 13 years of operation. As a result the Saint Christopher Inn requires continual renovation and renewal. A recent water pipe break caused a flood at Saint Christopher Inn, and the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation provided $100,000 to assist with needed renovations and upgrades to the bathrooms.
