Saint Joseph Hospital has been training physicians since 1893 and is the largest private hospital teaching program in the Rocky Mountain Region. Today, there are more than 100 resident physicians in training at Saint Joseph Hospital. Saint Joseph Hospital’s involvement in nursing education is equally storied. The Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing graduated approximately 1,750 nurses between 1900 and 1970. Today, the Hospital offers a robust nursing education program including the largest clinical scholars program in the city. Nursing students from educational institutions throughout the area come to the Hospital for clinical training.

The CPMG Healthcare Education Fund, a fund of the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, takes a unique approach to nursing recruitment and education. In partnership with the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) and Exempla Healthcare, the fund was established by physicians to address the nursing shortage. Through this unique partnership, thefund has assisted with establishing an accelerated nursing degree program and skills lab at Metropolitan State College of Denver, a nursing skills lab and dedicated education unit at Saint Joseph Hospital, and a nursing skills lab and clinical scholars program with Regis University. The fund has also provided many nursing scholarships for nurses who want to complete a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree.
